Even though New York’s Village Voice named Sendecki “one of the world’s top five jazz pianists” he first had to endure a long struggle with himself and the music scene before he became what he is today. Born in 1955 in Gorlice in Poland, Sendecki first learnt classical piano in the great tradition of his home country. It was only the records by Western greats, that he secretly heard during his time at the Frederic-Chopin conservatory and the Krakow music academy, which brought him latterly to jazz. In 1981 he emigrated to Switzerland where he started an international career, playing with Klaus Doldinger’s Passport group, Billy Cobham, Michael and Randy Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, Joe Henderson, Lenny White and Charlie Mariano. But in the long term, he wasn’t fulfilled with the role of the highly regarded “musicians’ musician.” A period of self contemplation followed during which he hardly played for years until he moved to Hamburg and, in 1996, became a piano soloist with the internationally acclaimed NDR Big Band.
With his new band project Roots he reflects on traditional songs from his home. His latest CD available is the solo album "Solo Piano live at Schloss Elmau", released on ACT.

Christof Lauer Trio live at Jazzfest Berlin 2009 - UPDATE!

Photo of Christof Lauer © by: CF Wesenberg / ACT

Christof Lauer · saxophones
Michel Godard · tuba & serpent, bass guitar
Patrice Heral · drums, percussion, vocals

recorded live at Georg-Neumann-Saal des Jazz-Institut Berlin, November 7, 2009

1. Un Regalo Per Natale (Michel Godard)
2. The Kite (Christof Lauer)
3. Mona (Patrice Heral)
4. Blues in Mind (Christof Lauer)
5. Suave Sopiro (Michel Godard)
6. Circe (Christof Lauer)
7. De Cuir et de Cuivre (Michel Godard)

Christof Lauer’s international trio of virtuoso musicians offers the added attraction that each musician plays two different instruments. Godard is a tuba player, but equally competent on the historical serpent, a slightly hoarse-sounding, snakelike exotic monster, a precursor to the ophiclieides made from wood covered in leather. Heral is an excellent drummer and percussionist as well and Lauer’s playing on soprano and tenor sax is so different in character, that one may justifiably speak of two different instruments. An ensemble of numerous possibilities this is – music with driving rhythm, lyrical with an angular edge and suffused with a soulful and strangely foreign beauty.
In 2007 Christof Lauer recorded a trio record featuring Michel Godard and Gary Husband called "Blues In Mind" released on ACT Music.

Arild Andersen Trio live at Jazzfest Berlin 2009

1. Ilama Ilama

When George Russell put together a band of completely unknown young Norwegian musicians in the late sixties, bassist Arild Andersen was one of them. The others were Jan Garbarek, Terje Rypdal and Jon Christensen. Soon the quartet was gaining confidence and wider acclaim and released their first album Afric Pepperbird on the ECM label – a landmark of Norwegian jazz.
Arild Andersen has been one of Europe's leading bass players ever since, also playing the local Oslo rhythm section for visiting Americans like Don Cherry, George Russell and Sam Rivers. He recorded 16 albums in his own name for ECM. Bill Frisell, Ralph Towner, Nana Vasconcelos, Paul Motian, Alphonze Mouzon, Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor are among the great musicians that can be heard on some of these albums.
His recent trio features Scottish saxophone player Tommy Smith and Italian expatriate Paolo Vinaccia on drums. Since Vinaccia was ill last November, French drummer Patrice Heral sat in with his old friend Arild Andersen.
One of his recent recordings is "Electra", released of course on ECM
